Rome, jazz returns to Monte Mario: the Massimo Urbani festival from 7 to 9 July

On stage the young talents of the jazz scene to remember the master who died 30 years ago

The Monte Mario ‘Massimo Urbani’ Jazz Festival returns to Rome. From 7 to 9 July, the music festival, now in its fourth edition, promoted by Roma Capitale with the artistic and organizational direction of Pirene Srl intends to celebrate the talent of the musician born and raised in the Roman district, thirty years after his death.

To commemorate Urbani, the festival brings young emerging talents of the jazz scene to the stage with trio, quartet and quintet performances. The concerts will take place at 21.00 with free admission at the park in Piazza Santa Maria della Pietà.


The July 7th Lorenzo Simoni 4tet, saxophonist and composer, winner of the Premio Massimo Urbani 2023, opens the review. Special guest of the first evening, Maurizio Urbani, brother of Massimo, one of the most appreciated saxophonists in the jazz world. With his tenor sax he has played alongside world stars such as Chet Baker, Sal Nistico, David Liebman, Enrico Rava, Luca Flores and many others.

L’July 8th the Trio directed by Danilo Blaiotta, pianist, composer, popularizer, writer and teacher will take the stage. His record ‘Departures’ was awarded in Japan in the top ten of the best 10 jazz albums of the year in the world (Jazz Hyhio).

The review ends on July 9th with Jacopo Ferrazza 5tet, with the Fantàsia project which is based on original compositions written by him for the quintet. Jacopo Ferrazza was included among the three best Italian jazz talents on the occasion of the Top jazz 2017 and 2019. He won the SIAE award as the best Italian talent.
