The Lefortovsky District Court of Moscow ruled that US citizen Gene (Yevgeny) Spector, already convicted in a corruption case, must be arrested on espionage charges. This was reported by Tass, as reported by Ansa. “The court granted the prosecution’s request to take US citizen Spector into custody on charges based on Article 276 of the Russian Criminal Code (espionage),” the court said. Gene Spector, born and raised in St. Petersburg, he moved to the USA where he obtained citizenship.

The previous allegations and the case of Evan Gershkovich

Gene (Yevgeny) Spector was the chairman of the board of directors of the Medpolymerprom group, which specializes in anticancer drugs, as reported by Tass. He had previously been accused of brokering bribes for Anastasia Alekseyeva, a former associate of former Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich. In recent months, Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich was also arrested on the same charges.
