Russia, Lavrov: Moldova? A second Ukraine

Russia does not welcome the EU’s ok for Moldova’s accession. The head of Russian diplomacy Sergej Lavrov interviewed by the NTV channel declares that the West “is clearly trying to make Moldova a second Ukraine, undermining its stability”. He also accuses the Chisinau authorities of adopting a “consumerist approach” that Lavrov calls begging. “They are begging for gas supplies by asking for a discount on payments in exchange for a slowdown in the path of access to the European Union,” Lavrov said. “They say: let’s start entering the EU right away then we’ll see what they promise us there, maybe we’ll decide whether to stay” adds the head of Russian diplomacy who uses terms like “extortion” (WAR IN UKRAINE: THE SKY TG24 SPECIAL – ALL UPDATES IN REAL TIME).

Von der Leyen on Moldova: “candidate for EU membership, but make reforms”

“We recommend to the Council that Moldova be assigned a European perspective and the status of a candidate country for EU membership provided that the country undertakes a series of reforms”. This was stated by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, at the press conference to present the Commission’s opinions on the applications for EU membership presented by Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia. Also for Emmanuel Macron “Moldova can become an EU candidate”.
