Salernitana-Lazio 2-1, Candreva decides

First victory for the Granata

Pippo Inzaghi’s Salernitana plays a trick on Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio and wins 2-1 in a comeback against Arechi. A great result for the Granata who won their first victory in this championship, rising to eight points in the standings, catching Verona. Salernitana hadn’t won in Serie A since May 27, 2022 against Udinese. Inzaghi’s team will now challenge Fiorentina away while Lazio will return to the Olimpico against Cagliari.

However, it’s a bad setback for Lazio which leaves them with 17 points. The match was decided by the ex’s classic goal with Candreva, who scored the decisive goal of the 2-1 in the 66th minute with a Eurogoal: a two-way free kick with a touch from Kastanos and Candreva invents a shot that surprises a non-player perfect Provedel.

It’s the fifth defeat in the last seven away games for a Lazio team that just can’t change gear in this championship. The Biancocelesti took the lead in the 43rd minute with a penalty scored by Ciro Immobile with a right-footed shot. Inzaghi’s team reacts in the second half and in the 55th minute they find the equalizer with Grigoris Kastanos who makes the most of a less than perfect clearance from Provedel. In the 66th minute they then turn it around with Candreva. The final siege of Lazio with the Granata locked in 11 in their area was of no use.
