Samsung-PoliMi, 62% Italians with digital reduction of environmental impacts

Research shows that for 49% technology is the engine of social progress, for 47% it reduces inequalities

Technologies at the service of the environment and in support of a society that progresses and is more equitable. This is the point of view of Italians on digital that emerged from a research conducted by Samsung in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano and disseminated today, on the occasion of the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the Korean giant in Italy. According to the results, 62% of respondents consider that digital can contribute to the reduction of environmental impact, 49% consider it an engine of social progress and 47% a tool for reducing inequalities and promoting a more inclusive and fair.

The reduction of environmental impacts for Italians starts with the smart home: 54% of respondents associate the smart home with the ability to control and reduce consumption, 37% believe that, thanks to a connected home, it is possible to make more sustainable home life. But sustainability is also among the characteristics considered most relevant for a smart city, because for 48% of the interviewees the Smart City must reflect the idea of ​​a sustainable place in full respect of the planet and the needs of the individual.

The research also highlights how new technologies are increasingly associated by Italians with the improvement of life expectancy through tools to monitor physical well-being and health and technologies for personal safety. The spread of health devices is of interest to 58% of Italians.

Closely linked to social progress, continues the research of Samsung and the Politecnico di Milano, it is the improvement that the education sector can derive from new technologies, which have the ability to revolutionize current teaching and to advance it towards a more hybrid approach. . 87% of respondents are confident that technology will positively impact the quality of education. Furthermore, the Italians hope for a radical change in future educational scenarios: for example, 30% of the sample imagines a didactic where augmented reality will allow them to follow fully immersive and interactive classroom or remote lessons. A third of the interviewees are also convinced that digital will increasingly play a role as an engine of employment, if supported by a greater dissemination of adequate skills and the study of Stems (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), which are essential to be able to fully exploit the benefits of new technologies.
