Velma Dinkley is gay: now it’s official. The video of the new film ‘Scooby-Doo! confirming the assumptions that ‘Scooby’ fans have been making for decades.

The gang of amateur detectives in ‘Scooby Doo’ has been solving mysteries since 1969. The lead dog stumbles upon crimes, uncovering clues with the help of his friends Shaggy, Daphne, Fred and Velma, who together make up ‘Mystery Incorporated’.

James Gunn, screenwriter of the early Scooby-Doo films, had previously confirmed Velma’s character’s sexual orientation, but never officially on screen. “In 2001 Velma was explicitly gay in my initial script,” reads ‘Variety’. “But the production kept things calm, making it ambiguous (in the filmed version), then nothing (in the released version) and finally with a boyfriend (in the sequel).”
