Nicknamed The Queen and regarded as one of the best tennis players of all time, Serena Williams is currently enjoying a vacation in Italy. Yesterday, Monday 29 May 2023, the former tennis player published a post on Instagram containing two different photographs, which portray her in an evening dress and with a baby bump. Serena Williams, already mother of a little girl, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., is in fact expecting her second child with her husband Alexis Ohanian.
The announcement of the second pregnancy at the Met Gala
The former international tennis star had publicly announced her second pregnancy on the occasion of the Met Gal 2023 red carpet, shortly after announcing her retirement from the world of sport. Serena Williams had in fact crossed the iconic staircase of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York together with her husband Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit, and also with a big belly in plain sight. The Instagram post, published shortly after taking part in the fashion event and which portrayed Serena Williams with her husband and baby bump, had officially confirmed the second pregnancy of the tennis legend: “I was so excited when Anna Wintour invited us 3 at the Met Gala”.
The pregnant shot during the holiday in Italy
Serena Williams, five years after the birth of her first child Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., born in September 2017, is pregnant again. Of the second child, however, neither her gender nor her name have yet been revealed. The former tennis player took advantage of the holiday in Italy to share some shots of her wearing a long evening dress and showing her baby bump in plain sight. The two photographs that portray her were accompanied by a light and ironic message: “Warning: things are never what they seem. Seriously, I’m trying to figure out if the kid is in front or… Back. Swipe right”. In the two images, in fact, the 41-year-old athlete first shows himself posing in front of the camera, and then in profile, while she wraps her belly with her hands.
The difficulty of the first pregnancy
The light and ironic comment that accompanies Serena Williams’ post, published during her holidays in Italy, probably also aims to ease the tension and the problems she had with her first pregnancy. In fact, giving birth to her first baby girl was unfortunately not very simple: Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. was born after an emergency caesarean section and, during the contractions, the baby’s heartbeat seemed to slow down dramatically. Even the postpartum phase hadn’t been a walk in the park for the tennis queen: Serena Williams had been forced to rest for six months in bed following a pulmonary embolism.
