Ski holidays, fewer Italians hunting for equipment

Trovaprezzi.it survey, searches for prices on clothing drop by 26%, skis, snowboards and boots also down compared to 2023

For them snow holidays 2023-2024 fewer and fewer Italians go hunting on the web for the best deals on clothing and accessories ski equipment and reduce spending compared to previous ones winter holidays. This was revealed by analysts at Trovaprezzi.it who, in the latest analysis of online searches for the best prices, verified that sportswear, which had totaled approximately 563 thousand searches during the previous winter (October 2022 and March 2023), in the last three months (October – December 2023) instead it dropped to 217 thousand searches. The hunt for the best price for snow clothing thus recorded a -26% compared to the same period last year. And a decline in interest is also expected for the first quarter of 2024.

These products arouse more interest from men (56.4% of total searches) and young people aged 25-34 (24.3%), explain the analysts who indicate that the more sporty ones have instead focused on new skis, snowboards and boots, although still to a lesser extent compared to winter 2022. During the last ski season, in fact, there were over 285 thousand searches in the category, of which over 111 thousand between October and December 2022 and around 174 thousand in the first quarter of 2023.

But if we analyze the first tranche of this winter on skis and snowboards, Trovaprezzi.it analysts note that during the last quarter of 2023 the searches carried out by users were around 83 thousand, with a drop of 26% compared to the same period of ‘last year. For the first quarter of 2024, however, a slight growth (+3%) is expected in this sector. The majority of searches for skis, snowboards and boots, equal to 77% of total searches, come from men and the greatest interest was found by young people aged between 35 and 44 (27.3%).

For the category dedicated to boots and bindings, there were approximately 185 thousand searches during last winter, approximately 75 thousand in the last quarter of 2022 and over 109 thousand during the first quarter of 2023, while in the last quarter of 2023 there was a decline by 22% compared to the previous year with over 58 thousand searches. Declining trend also expected for the first quarter of 2024. 74% of total searches for boots were carried out by men and the greatest interest comes from users aged between 35 and 44 (26.6%).

The analysis also shows that those who do not want to take risks on the snow have equipped themselves with a helmet, either complete with a photochromic visor or combined with a ski mask. As with the other categories, searches for ski and snowboard accessories are also decreasing this year. In fact, last ski season this category exceeded 95 thousand, equal to approximately 40 thousand between October and December 2022 and over 55 thousand between January and March 2023. In the last quarter of 2023, however, searches for ski and snowboard accessories were recorded approximately 32 thousand searches, -20% compared to the same period of the previous year, and analysts estimate a slight decline also in the first quarter of 2024.
