THE RING OF FIRE
- The ring of fire was drawn on time in the sky of the Americas: at 6.30 pm Italians the annular solar eclipse, not visible from Europe, put on a spectacle

THE SOLAR ECLIPSE
- The new Moon crossed the space between the Earth and the Sununtil it partially covers the solar disk with its shadow, leaving only a bright ring visible

MOON AND SUN
- The Moon then continued its journey, slowly leaving the scene to our star. In Europe the phenomenon was not visible

EYES TO THE SKY
- The images also arrived in Italy, via the Virtual Telescope, by numerous American observatories in Arizona, Utah, California, Panama, Florida and New Mexico. Some telescopes have even immortalized a solar flare

THE ANNULAR ECLIPSE
- An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon is in the point of its orbit farthest from Earth

HOW DOES IT WORK
- For this reason it appears smaller and, when it passes in front of the Sun, its shadow is unable to cover the entire diskleaving only the outermost area of our star visible

THE NEXT ECLIPSE
- The next appointment with an eclipse, this time visible from Europe, is with the partial lunar eclipse of October 28. The totality phase will also be observable from Italy

TOTAL ECLIPSE
- To have a total eclipse, however, the Moon must be quite close to our planet to completely cover the solar disk in the sky: a phenomenon of this type is expected on April 8, 2024, but even then it will only be visible from the Americas

OBSERVATION
- During an annular eclipse the sky remains quite bright, even with the sun 90% covered. The ring of fire was admired only by those who were on a narrow trajectory

THE PARTIAL ECLIPSE
- In the surrounding areas it was possible to observe a partial eclipse, which occurs when the Earth, Moon and Sun are not perfectly aligned
