Squid Game 2 will arrive in 2024: official confirmation from Netflix

Squid Game 2 will arrive on Netflix (also visible on Sky Glass, Sky Q and via the Now Smart Stick app) within the next 12 months.

The long-awaited second season of the record-breaking television series will be broadcast on the streaming platform later this year, as was announced by Netflix itself in a letter to shareholders on Tuesday 23 January.
The news was given by the US website Varietywhich reported part of the letter addressed to Netflix shareholders.

“Looking ahead, although last year’s strikes delayed the launch of some titles, we have a big and bold schedule for 2024. Audiences will be able to choose from returning hits such as The Diplomat S2, Bridgerton S3, Squid Game S2 and Empress S2; unscripted series like Tour de France: Unchained S2, Love is Blind S6, F1: Drive to Survive S6 And Full Swing S2; and new shows like 3 Body Problem (based on the bestseller and by the creators of game of Thrones), Griselda (starring Sofia Vergara, debuting this week), The Gentlemen (by Guy Ritchie), Eric (starring Benedict Cumberbatch), Avatar: The Last Airbender, Cien Años de Soledad based on the novel by Gabriel García Márquez and Seine from Brasil”.

Netflix executives also confirmed that the fourth season of Emily in Paris will be launched later this year.

Squid Game it turned out to be a huge success for Netflix

The nine-episode first season of Squid Game by Dong-hyuk was released in 2021.

The drama about a deadly competition between poor contestants to win 45.6 billion Won proved to be a huge success for Netflix, earning 14 Emmy nominations and winning six, including the award for Outstanding Drama Series, the first time in history for a series not in English language.

Squid Game also made history at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards, becoming the first non-English-language series and the first Korean series to earn nominations for Cast in a Drama Series, for Actor in a Drama Series (Lee Jung-jae) , for Actress in a Drama Series (Jung Ho-yeon) and for Stunt Ensemble. Lee Jung-jae and Ho-yeon won the prizes.

The record-breaking television series also won three Golden Globe Awards, including Best TV Series – Drama.

Netflix confirmed in January 2022 that there would be a 2nd season

After months of speculation and rumors where there was question as to whether or not the series would get a second season, Netflix confirmed that it would proceed with a second season in January 2022.

Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos said: “Absolutely. The universe of Squid Game it’s just begun.”
And in fact that universe then expanded, including a series of unscripted competitions, i.e Squid Game: The Challenge and an upcoming video game.
