There is great excitement in that very distant galaxy created by George Lucas in the now distant 1977. And there is great excitement among fans of the saga of Star Wars, which since the acquisition by Disney has experienced an exponential growth among new trilogies, spin-off films and TV series.

Among unexpected successes such as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, instant cult like the TV series The Mandalorian and flop like Solo: A Star Wars Story, Star Wars fans have had something to rejoice, argue and argue. But what we’ve seen so far is just the beginning, because Disney already has a tight schedule of new releases in store for the years to come.

Between imminent arrivals and plans for a still distant future, between already fixed release dates and others that are still difficult to frame, what is certain is that the panorama is constantly updated. Below is the list of new Star Wars movies and TV series coming out in the coming months and years.

Star Wars: discover the Special

Star Wars, the upcoming movies

Rogue Squadron (December 22, 2023)

As for the new Star Wars films coming out, there are few details, but at least certain release dates (or almost, as we will see shortly), also because the landing in cinemas requires a certain planning, especially when talks about high-budget films like those of the Star Wars saga. On the plot of Rogue Squadron we still don’t know anything, except that it will tell about a new generation of stellar pilots committed to proving their skills and risking their lives in a high-speed adventure. However, there is already a name for the director, and that of Patty Jenkins, already behind the camera of Monster and DC Comics films dedicated to Wonder Woman. In short, a certainty in terms of quality. However, doubts have arisen regarding the director’s dense schedule of appointments, which according to some could postpone the release date.

Untitled Star Wars movie (December 19, 2025)

Contrary to that for Rogue Squadron, here we enter unknown territories and we are only allowed to speculate. For this reason, as well as for the next film in the Star Wars franchise, many are making the names of the directors of Kevin Feige and Taika Waititi, both officially working to bring the saga back to the big screen. To get more information, however, we can not help but wait for updates from Disney.

Untitled Star Wars movie (December 17, 2027)

For this third Star Wars live action film, the above is valid: all that remains is to be patient and hope to learn more as the other films and TV series of the franchise arrive at the cinema or in streaming.

Star Wars: A Droid Story (date to be determined)

Alongside the three aforementioned live action, Lucasfilm Animation’s development with Industrial Light & Magic of an animated film has also been announced that will focus not so much on humans and humanoids of the Star Wars galaxy, but on droids. The protagonist will be a new artificial character, led in his enterprise by the “veterans” C-3PO and R2Ds.

Star Wars, the upcoming TV series

The Book of Boba Fett (December 29, 2021)

The most imminent release in the Star Wars universe is the TV series dedicated to the beloved bounty hunter Boba Fett, for which there is already a trailer and a very specific release date: on December 29, 2021 the show will be streaming. on Disney + and also visible on Sky Q and via the app on Now Smart Stick. Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen reprise their roles as Boba Fett and mercenary Fennec Shand after The Mandalorian. Directing the various episodes, in which the two anti-heroes will try to make their way into the territory once controlled by Jabba the Hutt, we find weighty directors such as Robert Rodriguez, Jon Favreau and Bryce Dallas Howard.

The Mandalorian 3 (2022 – date to be determined)

The most awaited Star Wars TV series, however, certainly remains The Mandalorian, whose third season will arrive soon on Disney + and will also be visible on Sky Q and through the app on Now Smart Stick. Soon, therefore, we will be able to follow again the exciting adventures of Din Djarin, as always played by Pedro Pascal.

Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022? – date to be determined)

Also in 2022 (although there is some more uncertainty about the precise release date) another “big hit” will return to the arena: we are obviously talking about Obi-Wan Kenobi, after the Prequel Trilogy played once again by Ewan McGregor , which at the time with his test had convinced even the detractors of the films ranging from The phantom menace to Revenge of the Sith. The series will be set eight years after this last film and should therefore go to investigate the years of the Jedi master’s exile on Tattoine. Hayden Christensen will also return in the six episodes of the series as Darth Vader.

Andor (2022? – date to be determined)

Another welcome return will be that of the rebel Cassian Andor, the character played by Diego Luna in Rogue One. The new story will take place five years before the one told in the film and the cast will include leading actors such as Stellan Skarsgård and Forest Whitaker (again as Saw Gerrera).

Star Wars – The Bad Batch 2 (2022 – date to be determined)

Green light to the second season of the animated TV series that tells the deeds of Clone Force 99, the elite group of clone trooper who are assigned the most dangerous missions.

Ahsoka (date to be determined)

Besides The Book of Boba Fett, The Mandalorian gave birth to another spin off, this time dedicated to the character of Ahsoka Tano, who will still be played by Rosario Dawson. Other characters seen in the cult TV series will most likely appear, even if at the moment the details on the show are very few.

Star Wars – The Acolyte (date to be determined)

Leslie Headland, co-creator of the acclaimed TV series Russian Doll, will be the showrunner of a new female series from Star Wars. The show, as far as we know, will be a thriller set in the era of the so-called “High Republic”, about 200 years before the events narrated in theEpisode I.

Lando (date to be determined)

Lando Calrissian will become the protagonist of a story of his own, written by Justin Simien. It is still not known if later Solo: A Star Wars Story Donald Glover will return to play Han Solo’s friend, but fans of the saga are certainly hoping for his involvement, given the impeccable proof provided by the actor and musician in the 2018 spin-off.

Rangers of the New Republic (probably canceled)

Yet another spin-off of The Mandalorian, whose fates appear to be hanging by a thread, so much so that at the moment the production is “frozen”. To weigh on the decision certainly weighs the dismissal by Disney of Gina Carano, interpreter of the character of Cara Dune. Although not officially canceled, it is likely that this TV series will never see the light … but when it comes to Star Wars, hope never dies.
