Stella McCartney launches capsules for B&B Italia

Three-piece with the hand-drawn ‘Fungi Forest’ print, taken from the Stella McCartney Summer 2022 runway collection

The Stella McCartney x B&B Italia capsule collection, launched on the occasion of Art Basel in Miami Beach, is made up of three pieces, thus formalizing the first collaboration in the furniture sector of the British pioneer of environmental responsibility. Starting yesterday, the windows of the B&B Italia store in Miami will welcome the Dolly armchair and the Granbambola 3-seater sofa in an immersive setting. Both are distinguished by the fabric covering with the hand-drawn ‘Fungi Forest’ print, taken from the Stella McCartney Summer 2022 runway collection, and by the responsible design inspired by the sustainability values shared by the brands.

The partnership was successfully presented last June during Milan Design Week as part of ‘Future of Fashion’, an installation by Stella McCartney dedicated to material innovations. For the occasion, the Italian design brand and the British pioneer of responsible luxury have strongly collaborated to re-imagine the iconic Doll chair by Mario Bellini in the 2022 version. The union was born from Stella’s historic personal passion for the creations of Mario Bellini and celebrates the 50th anniversary of The Dolls. Half a century after its debut, the Le Dolls series evolves thanks to innovative design elements that make it even more comfortable and sustainable. The capsule collection combines the unquestionable quality and durability of B&B Italia products with responsible choices of materials and construction techniques, inspired by Stella McCartney’s green mission. Made according to the dictates of circularity, the new version of Le Dolls can also be completely disassembled, so as to facilitate any maintenance operations and recover the materials in the most responsible way possible at the end of the product’s life cycle.

If the original version of The Dolls featured a metal structure drowned in polyurethane, the 2022 collection and the Stella McCartney edition make use of the latest generation materials. The structure in recycled polyethylene, the elements in polyurethane foam, the thermoplastic elastomers – all sheathed in a recycled Pet-derived undercover – give the armchair its iconic shape, comfort and breathability. The Stella McCartney x B&B Italia capsule also introduces unprecedented sustainable innovation, developed exclusively by the B&B Italia Research & Development Centre. The upholstery is in fact made of 100% biodegradable polyester fabric (data confirmed by laboratory tests on the decomposition of the fabric in compost and soil, which did not reveal any environmental damage). Toxin-free, i.e. it does not release dangerous microplastics into the environment, it is made with 25% bio-based and 75% petroleum-derived raw materials.

The fabric is produced in controlled factories that comply with strict OceanSafe Compliant standards, while the ink used for printing is Oeko-Tex certified. In parallel with the official launch in Miami, the Stella McCartney x B&B Italia collection will be exhibited in Shanghai in the Le Dolle pop-up store at hAo mMarket. The Stella McCartney x B&B Italia collection – made up of the Dolly armchair, the Bibambola 2-seater sofa and the Granbambola 3-seater sofa – is on sale worldwide from today in the B&B Italia stores, at authorized mono-brand and multi-brand retailers, as well as online at the shop .bebitalia.com, with the first launch expected on the US market.
