Sting: “I have a heavy metal voice”

During an interview with Rick Beato, Sting talked a lot about his career and in particular of his timbre of voice. “The register is something very interesting. Most heavy metal singers sing in those tones up there, so too i am a heavy metal singer, but I have a little more melody. […]. To make yourself heard over the noise of the band you need that register. You can’t be a baritone in a rock band, really ”. Sting also added that his approach matched the way “a sergeant major yells and yells on the parade ground. Do you know why? Because it has to overcome the noise of the artillery in battle. Upload or retire. […] Singers have the same need ”. The artist then went back to talking about the transition to a solo career, which took place after the last album released with The Police, Synchronicity, in 1983. “My instincts told me that we had achieved everything we could ever have thought of obtaining. After that, what you get is satisfaction that decreases. So I needed to take another risk in my life. And of course I got momentum thanks to the success of The Police: whatever I did next, people would be curious at the very least. So I used that momentum to give myself a boost in my next career. But it was a risk. I think art is always a risk. If you are not taking a risk, then you are not creating art ”. Meanwhile, Sting has recently gone out with his fifteenth album as usual, “The Bridge”.
