Stories and anecdotes in the chat that traces some of the stages of his life and Hollywood career. Starting from her childhood: “At the Muccino house, my mother, like today, painted compulsively. My father was the rational element of reference, a moral example for me too ”and three brothers“ who grew up in a somewhat disheveled way because the family was like that in her own way, like all the families that I then went to tell about ”. A central and recurring theme in her cinema and explains: “The family is representative of society, it encompasses all the behavioral dynamics of men and therefore becomes a universal story”. The first films and the disruptive success arrived with “The Last Kiss” (33 billion lire grossed, 5 David di Donatello, 3 Nastri D’Argento and much more): “It was overwhelming. A film that went further and created a fierce social, cultural and media debate for over 6 months”. From there the meeting with Will Smith, in love with the blockbuster film, and the acclaimed “The pursuit of happiness”: “We met in Paris. I don’t know what I said or did but it worked, he was enchanted by it and ten days later I was in Hollywood meeting all of Columbia’s elite but they wanted super acclaimed directors, not newcomers”. But “Will just wanted me and said ‘I’ve seen how other directors work and I know what I want, so either you take him or I do the film with Warner’. And the film was made.” From there many others between Hollywood and Italy including “Seven souls”, “Remember me”, “Kiss me again”. And just as many meetings with world stars, from Stevie Wonder to Tom Cruise: “He is exactly as you see him on the screen, there is no split between life and set I met him at his house because he wanted to make a film with me, usually those meetings last 45 minutes, in the end I stayed 7 and a half hours, he made up his mind that I had to learn to catch the baseball with a glove. I did it after hours. He was very satisfied “.
