Strange Way of Life: the plot of the movie

A man crosses the desert that separates him from Bitter Creek on horseback. He comes to see Sheriff Jake. Twenty-five years earlier, both the sheriff and Silva, the rancher who meets him, worked together as hitmen. Silva visits him under the pretense of reuniting with his friend from his youth, and they indeed celebrate their meeting, but the next morning Sheriff Jake tells him that the reason for his trip is not to walk down memory lane of their old friendship. The strange way of life referred to in the title alludes to the famous fado by Amalia Rodrigues, whose lyrics suggest that there is no existence stranger than the one lived turning one’s back on one’s desires.
