The Catalan club: “The decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union will determine our final position”
Barcelona confirmed Juventus’ willingness to give up the Superlega project. The Blaugrana club did so through an official press release, in which they ensure “that they have received the communication signed by Gianluca Ferrero, president of Juventus”. Thus, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are the teams that remain in the new European competition. “FC Barcelona confirms receipt of the communication signed by Gianluca Ferrero, current president of Juventus Turin, yesterday 6 June 2023. In accordance with current and contractual obligations, FC Barcelona will maintain strict confidentiality regarding future talks with Juventus in order to evaluate their potential withdrawal from the European Super League project,” explains Barca.
“FC Barcelona reminded once again that the project is currently at the center of a judicial proceeding pending the resolution of the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg. The resolution of the Court of Justice of the European Union will be essential to ensure the need of legal certainty regarding the adequate and correct interpretation of the legal framework of professional football in Europe. This resolution, which is expected to be issued in the coming months, will determine Barça’s final position on this matter,” the statement concludes.
