Sustainability, Testoni (ETicaNews): ‘Finance tools are not lacking, bureaucracy is holding back’

Finance has multiple intervention tools to translate its sustainability objectives into an area that is tangible and concrete. But there are obstacles, particularly in Italy – explains Luca Testoni, director of ETicaNews and Esg Business Review, on the occasion of the presentation of the working paper ‘ESG Finance and the water sector’, created by ETicaNews with the support of Gruppo Cap and Assolombarda – The answer that emerges from the research is a reflection of what happened in Glasgow during Cop 26: there is a very strong will to invest, finance is ready to invest in the water sector and fully understands the value of the sector. The mutual desire to communicate collides with these main gaps: the inability to know the Italian water assets, as these are very fragmented and the regulatory difficulty, since these assets have a governance that is often of public derivation which makes it very difficult to open of the capital to the outside world. It will therefore be necessary to act on the reorganization of the water sector – concludes the director of ETicaNews and Esg Business Review – or find other tools that can coexist with the complex governance of some of these companies, such as sustainable bonds (Green Bonds) “.
