The American destroyer Uss Milius has made, in the past few hours, “a routine transit through the Taiwan Strait in waters where the freedoms of navigation and overflight on the high seas in accordance with international law apply”, just a few days after China has finished its war exercises around the island. The operation, it was explained, represents “the US commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific”.

Meanwhile, however, the Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army reported that it had “completely monitored the passage operations of the US warship” through the Taiwan Strait, maintaining “always a high level of alert at all times” The reason? That of “resolutely defending national sovereignty and security”, as well as “regional peace and stability”. This, specifically, is the position expressed by the spokesman of the Command Shi Yi in a note, in which the US itself they have been accused of having “publicly extolled” their operation carried out yesterday and announced this morning.
