In Johannesburg, South Africa, one of the most important events related to bodybuilding will be staged from 19 to 21 May, theArnold Classicalso known today as the Arnold Sports Festival, one of the most important events related to bodybuilding

Created in 1989 by the actor, bodybuilder and former governor of California Arnold Schwarzeneggerthe Arnold Classic takes place annually in the United States, but over the years it has given rise to editions all over the world, including in Africa

The first edition of the Arnold Classic Africa body building contest took place in 2016. Since then, it has been held every year in May. In 2023 the African edition of the festival is at Ruimsig stadium of Johannesburg

The Arnold Classic isn’t just for bodybuilders though. The festival sees athletes compete in 45 different sports and events. It is in fact a real sports festival which not only offers body building shows, but also lessons and competitions related to other disciplines from Arm-Wrestling to Zumba

The main event, the USA event, takes place every February or March in Columbus, Ohio, USA, with the support of the IFBB, the International Federation of BodyBuilding & Fitness. It is considered the second most prestigious event in bodybuilding and bodybuilding after Mr. Olympia

As for the Arnold Classic Europe, also for the Arnold Classic Africa the separation between the two bodybuilding federations has meant that from 2018 onwards the only athletes who can take part in the competition are those of the IFBB Elite Pro

During the event there is also theexpoa fair curated by the sponsors of the event in which products related to food supplementation, sport and gym equipment are offered

The international editions of the Arnold Classic they take place throughout the year all over the world. After the US editions, which began in 1989, the Arnold Classic Europe has been held in Spain since 2011, the Arnold Classic South America in Brazil since 2013, the Arnold Classic Australia in Australia since 2015, the Arnold Classic Africa in South Africa and from 2021 the Arnold Classic UK in England. Unique edition in 2016 for the Arnold Classic Asia in Hong Kong
