The Boys: Mexico, Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal in the spin-off

The world of The Boys may soon expand to Mexico. According to sources reported by the US media, Variety First of all, Amazon is reportedly developing a Spanish-language spin-off of its popular dark superhero series, based on the comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.

The show should be called The Boys: Mexico and be set in Mexico City. Plot details are top secret for now. Among the various rumors, there is the one that reveals that Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal should be executive producers and, probably, also interpreters of the spin-off, as also reported Ciak Magazine.

Just like the original series The Boys, this spin-off is also expected to be produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Some sources reveal that Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, screenwriter of the DC film Blue Beetle with Xolo Maridueña, is in charge of writing the scripts.
The creator of The Boys, Erik Kripke, is expected to executive produce via Kripke Enterprises alongside Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver of Point Gray Pictures, and Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film. Sources also say that Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal would be executive producers under their label La Corriente del Golfo, although agreements for the series are still in progress (since nothing is official for now, we use the verbs in the conditional).

We remember that Luna and Bernal have always been together, side by side as excellent friends and since 2018 also co-founders of the production company La Corriente del Golfo, after returning to act together in the Disney miniseries The Machine.

This would be the third series set in the world of The Boys

If the project of The Boys: Mexico were to go through – which seems very likely from the information offered by sources close to the production – this would be the third series set in the world of The Boys, in addition to the main series which is expected to air its highly anticipated fourth season in 2024.

Prime Video recently debuted the first season of Gen V, a television series set in a college for superheroes run by Vought International. The show began last September 29th and was renewed for a second season immediately in October, confirming the enormous success it achieved.
Before that, Prime Video broadcast the animated anthology series The Boys Presents: Diabolicalwhich featured eight independent stories, featuring numerous actors drawn from the universe of The Boys who reprized their roles in the voice cast.

The Boys is one of the most popular Amazon Original series

The series The Boys has proven to be one of the most popular Amazon Original series ever. Since the show’s launch in 2019, it has consistently ranked highly in Nielsen’s streaming rankings whenever new episodes have aired. The series has also received eight Emmy nominations to date, including one for Outstanding Drama Series in 2021.

In the meantime, Amazon is also preparing another spin-off, that of the high-budget series that mixes spy stories and action Citadelof which “local” spin-offs are planned set in many different countries around the world, including Italy.
