To the shooting between Palermo and Syracuse of the new Netflix series The Leopardtaken fromnovel of the same name Of Giuseppe Tomasi of Lampedusa which, in 1963, had already given rise to the film by the great director Luchino Visconti, with Claudia Cardinale, Burt Lancaster and Alain Delon. The series, directed by Tom Shankland and composed by six episodes produced by Indiana Production and Moonage Pictures, will see in the cast the names of Kim Rossi Stuart, Benedetta Porcaroli, Saul Nanni and Deva Cassel, daughter of Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel. The streaming service had announced the start of filming on April 27, 2023.
Filming between Palermo and Syracuse, but also between Catania and Rome
Starting from Thursday 15 Junewill also officially start a Syracusein Piazza Duomo, the works for the preparation of the set of the TV series The Leopard. Filming began in the Sicilian capital as early as the end of May but, in addition to Palermo, the new adaptation of Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa’s novel will in fact also be filmed in Syracuse, but also between Catania and Rome, in a real tour of Central and Southern Italy which will recreate the settings of late nineteenth century.
The cast of The Leopard
The TV series The Leopard sees a respectable cast, led by Kim Rossi Stuartbut also by Benedetta Porcaroli, Deva Cassel and Saul Nanni: the four actors will play the parts of the Prince of Salina Don Fabrizio Corbera, Concetta, Angelica and Tancredi respectively. Next to them, the names of Paolo CalabresiFrancesco Colella, Astrid Meloni and Greta Esposito.
The story of the Leopard: from the novel to the film by Visconti up to the TV series
That of the Ocelot is an epic tale that narrates the transformations occurred in life and in society in Sicily during the Risorgimento, from the moment of the transition from the Bourbon Kingdom to the unitary transition of the Kingdom of Italy, following Garibaldi’s expedition of the Thousand. After the 1963 film by Luchino Visconti, which won the Palme d’Or as best film at the 16th Cannes Film Festival, the Netflix series, directed by Tom Shankland, will also deal in six episodes with the Sicilian uprisings of 1860 on which the novel by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa is based: the project will in fact follow the events of the prince of Salina and his family, also dealing with topics such as power, love and the cost of progress. The TV series The Leopard is a project produced by Fabrizio Donvito, Daniel Campos Pavoncelli, Marco Cohen and Benedetto Habib for Indiana Production and by Will Gould, Frith Tiplady and Matthew Read for Moonage Pictures.
