The images in the trailer of The Pod Generationsatirical comedy set in a dystopian future with protagonists Emilia Clarke and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The two actors form the duo called upon to illustrate the consequences of technology on humanity in Sophie Barthes’ latest film presented at the Sundance Film Festival, soon in theaters: the title will be available in the USA from 11 August.

The clip, over two minutes of edited images, conveys the atmosphere of the story well, a journey towards parenthood in a future but perhaps not too distant era, in which many things already sound familiar to us. You can see the trailer in the video at the top of this article.

Clarke and Ejiofor parents of the future

In the trailer of The Pod Generation Emilia Clarke and Chiwetel Ejiofor carry around a luminous plastic egg, literally, the life that grows out of the mother’s body. Towards the end (one imagines) of the twenty-first century, women, increasingly involved in work, will stop giving birth in the traditional way to share the burden of pregnancy with their partners. This is the premise of the latest effort by Sophie Barthes, director and screenwriter of this comedy, a satire on humanity and the future, which could become a new cult. Merit of the script (in the clip the dialogues seem very funny) but also of the duo of protagonists who in showing doubts and insecurities prove to be very human in a context that seems to have very little human.

A SATIRIC COMEDY ABOUT HUMANITY

What is left of the couple and the joy of birth in a world where babies are born from artificial pods? Is progress always a good thing for humanity? An old but always seductive question for those who write stories for the big screen. There are many reflections that cross this caustic but apparently light comedy and dazzling photography. In the cast, alongside the two main actors, there are also Vinette Robinson, Kathryn Hunter, Rosalie Craig and Jean-Marc Barr in the role of the Founder of the dark company that manages the future dominated by Artificial Intelligence.
