Robert Downey Jr is the protagonist of the first trailer of The Sympathizer, a drama mini-series based on the book of the same name by Viet Thanh Nguyen, Pulitzer for literature. The conditions for considering this work among the most anticipated of the season are all there, even without adding further details, but the short clip that has been released in the last few hours adds further elements of curiosity that make the product a rare gem on the global serial scene. In recent years, in fact, one of the criticisms that is most often leveled at the production landscape is that of flattening itself on themes that are always the same, without particular creative leaps or invective. The Sympathizer sets out to undermine this ingrained belief and bring to market something that the public has never seen yet. At least not on TV. And the premises, if not promises, of the trailer are tempting.
The Sympathizer Trailer
The element that most attracts the curiosity of the public in front of the trailer of The Sympathizer is its protagonist, Robert Downey Jr, who goes out of his way to give the face to various characters from the series alongside the rest of the cast. A courageous and almost unprecedented choice for a television series, often seen in the cinema but rarely in television adaptations. And there would also be a fifth role for Robert Downey Jr, namely that of the executive producer of the series. In addition to the four characters of RDJ, the other protagonists of the cast, which consists of Xuande, Fred Nguyen Khan, Toan Le, Ky Duyen and Sandra Oh, are also introduced in the trailer. In directing for the series we find Park Chan-wook, well-known and appreciated name of the television series, capable of realizing a fairly faithful transposition of the novel, even if with inevitable changes and adaptations for the speed required of a television product. The production of the series is still ongoing, this implies the impossibility of providing a certain release date which, however, should be placed in 2024, probably in its first half.

The Sympathizer is a cross-cultural satirical tale in a thriller sauce, which for its narrative strength has been compared to the works of writers of the caliber of Kafka and Orwell.
