Totò Riina’s son-in-law arrested in Malta and will be extradited

Antonio Ciavarello, known as Tony, 50 years old, has lived for some time with his wife Maria Concetta Riina in San Pancrazio Salentino, in the province of Brindisi

The son-in-law of mafia boss Totò Riina, Antonio Ciavarello, known as Tony, 50 years old, was arrested in Malta in execution of a European arrest warrant issued by the Brindisi Prosecutor’s Office in 2022 to serve a prison sentence for fraud and violation of security requirements. The news is reported by the online version of the ”Times of Malta” which cites a statement from the Malta Police, reporting that the arrest took place today in Mosta.

Having appeared in court after the arrest, as the Maltese newspaper reports, Ciavarello gave his consent to extradition. According to the court-appointed lawyer, the accused knew about the sentence but, according to the defense version, he did not know that it was effective. However, there are no legal issues with the police or the Maltese authorities. Once the arrest was validated, by decision of the magistrate Giannella Camilleri Busuttil, Ciavarello was brought back into custody, awaiting extradition to be carried out together with the Italian judicial authority.

Ciavarello, from Palermo, has lived for some time with his wife Maria Concetta Riina in San Pancrazio Salentino, in the province of Brindisi, and this explains the competence of the Apulian prosecutor’s office.
