Tour de France 2023, Izagirre wins the 12th stage

The Basque wins alone, general classification unchanged

Ion Izagirre, the Basque Cofidis rider, wins the twelfth stage of the 2023 Tour de France by force and solo, la Roanne – Bellevlle en Beaujolais 169 km with 5 Gpm. All unchanged in the general standings, with Jonas Vingegaard still in the yellow jersey, Tadej Pogacar direct pursuer at 17″, further away Jay Hindley at 2’40”. Tomorrow the Grand Colombier monument, where Pogacar could try to overtake in the standings.


It is in view of the brow of the last Gpm that Izagirre takes off from the leading group, at less than 30 km: it takes over the Grand Prix of the mountain and then attacks downhill brushing the curves that lead to the Beaujolais plain. The Basque pulls to the end, increasing his advantage over his pursuers up to the minute, while the yellow jersey group is over 4 minutes late. For the Cofidis rider it is the 18th victory in his career and the second in the Tour after that of Morzine in 2016.
