Uganda, 70 year old gives birth to twins

She is the oldest in Africa

A 70-year-old Ugandan woman has given birth to twinsa male and a female, thanks to assisted reproduction. Both the mother and the children are in good health and are still under observation in a facility in the capital Kampala. Safina Namukwaya usually lives in the rural area of Masaka, about 120 kilometers west of the capital. Only three years ago, the 70-year-old managed to give birth to a daughter, after having long been described as a “cursed woman” as a nulliparous woman.

With her first husband, who died in 1992, she had no children. Ms Namukwaya’s current partner, whom she met in 1996, did not attend her birth, and much to her disappointment, he has not yet visited her.

“This story is not only a medical success, but demonstrates the strength and resilience of the human spirit,” proclaimed the Kampala International Women’s Hospital and Fertility Center, which shared videos of the woman, Safina Namukwaya, before and after giving birth. The hospital assured that this is an unprecedented achievement in Africa due to the advanced age of her mother. Namukwaya admitted in statements to the NTV network that she suffered some complications during her pregnancy and she admitted that she does not know how she will be able to raise her children, among other reasons because her father abandoned them. “Men don’t like to know that you will have more than one child. Even after I was hospitalized, my man never showed up,” she said.
