Ukraine, Biden: “Russia cannot erase a sovereign state from the map”

For the US president, yesterday’s vote by the United Nations General Assembly sent a “clear message” to Moscow

The president of the United States Joe Biden he said yesterday’s UN General Assembly vote sent a “clear message” to Moscow. “The stakes of this conflict are clear to everyone – she said – and the world has sent a clear message in response: Russia cannot wipe a sovereign state off the map”.

Yesterday the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly condemned Russia’s “attempted illegal annexation” of four Ukrainian regions, calling on Moscow to reverse course. Three-quarters of the 193 members of the general assembly – or 143 countries – voted in favor of a resolution calling Moscow’s move illegal, exacerbating Russia’s international isolation.

Only four countries joined Russia in voting against the resolution: Syria, Nicaragua, North Korea and Belarus. Thirty-five countries abstained, including China, Russia’s strategic partner, along with India, South Africa and Pakistan. The rest of the countries did not vote.
