Premier: “Peace only when Russia stops attacks, speed up Kiev’s entry into the EU”
“We continue to work” for an end to the conflict in Ukraine it’s at “support President Zelensky’s peace plan in 10 points”. Thus the premier Giorgia Meloni, during the press statements following the bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal. “We are convinced that peace can only be achieved when Russia ceases hostilities”, he underlined.
“We continue to believe in the possibility of a diplomatic solution, provided that one does not think that the solution passes through the surrender of Ukraine, of an attacked country, it would be unfair and would “legitimize” a world where the right of the strongest wins over force of law, and it is a world that does not suit anyone”, Meloni declared.
“Talking about reconstruction for us means concretely betting on the end of the conflict and on victory, because I am sure that Ukraine’s future will be one of well-being, peace and ever more European”, the Prime Minister said again, adding: ” The future of Ukraine must be one of ever greater ability to fit into European dynamics and institutions. The smartest way to thank the Ukrainians for what they are doing is accelerate the possibility of being part of the European institutions“, also acknowledging “the efforts made” by Kiev.
As for the conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine, underway in Rome, “it is a commitment that I personally made with President Zelensky during my visit to Kiev at the end of February, and like so many commitments that Italy intended to keep, there is this also”. During today’s bilateral meeting “I reiterated that Italy will continue to do its part in all aspects of support for Ukraine, on a political, humanitarian and reconstruction level, which is a topic today for some strategic infrastructures of some liberated areas, but also for tomorrow, because it means betting on Ukraine’s victory”, underlined the premier.
“We want to play a leading role not only from a political point of view but also by involving individuals, our companies, our know-how. I mean that investing in the reconstruction of Ukraine is not risky, it is one of the most shrewd and far-sighted that can be done,” he said.
Shmyhal “told us thanks for the regenerators and electricity we helped provide to the Ukrainian population. He told us that also thanks to Italian support their civilians survived the winter. What Russia is doing by affecting the infrastructure civilian energy means trying to bend the population with cold and hunger. We have defended the population and I think Italy should be proud of it”, Meloni underlined.
“LRussia started this war against Ukraine to destroy our countrydoes not seek peace and a year later has not changed its plans”, reiterated the Ukrainian premier Shmyhal, again urging Moscow “to free all the occupied territories”.
Ukraine “thanks” Italy “for its all-round support” and is “grateful” for the initiative of the reconstruction conference underway in Rome. After the meeting with Meloni, Shmyhal underlined the need to “rebuild the country, but to rebuild it we must first free it”.
Meanwhile, he announces the signing of a series of agreements with Italy, between the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and ICE, one for the protection of the environment, in the industry and railways sector, a memorandum in the agro-industrial sector and for the reconstruction of the infrastructure of hydroelectric plants. And then between the Emilia Romagna Region and the Kharkiv region and between Tuscany and the Kiev region.
