Ukraine-Russia, Lyman strategic city: that’s why

Ukraine’s reconquest would be one of Russia’s worst military defeats

The takeover of Lyman by the forces of Kiev would represent a severe blow to Moscow. The city in the Donetsk region, in fact, is from strategic importance for Russia. Since the end of May, Russian troops have transformed it into a major logistics center for troop deployment and ammunition procurement. Lyman is also an important railway center, connecting the Donetsk, Luhansk and Kharkiv regions in the east and north-east of Ukraine.

As many as 5,000 Russian soldiers were deployed to Lyman and its reconquest by Ukraine it would be one of Russia’s worst military defeats since the beginning of its invasion on 24 February. In fact, it would allow Ukrainian troops to completely ‘clean up’ the northern part of the Donetsk region and move further to the nearby Luhansk region.
