Ukraine, UN: “Children sexually abused by Russia’s army”

“The spectrum of violations is very broad. We are talking about torture, violence, rape and other forms of sexual violence”

The UN Independent International Commission to Investigate Violations in Ukraine recorded numerous crimes committed by Russia’s military during the war. Sexual violence against children is among the crimes that have been established. Yasminka Dzhumkhur, a member of the commission, told Czech broadcaster Radio Free Europe about it.

“The commission established that war crimes, violations of human rights and international humanitarian law were committed on the territory of Ukraine. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are responsible for the vast majority of the detected violations,” said Dzhumkhur, who he is also the human rights commissioner of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“The spectrum of violations is very broad – he specified – We are talking about torture, violence, rape and other forms of sexual violence. We have recorded several crimes against children, including a wide range of sexual abuse. As for crimes against children, have been injured or killed with firearms, but also sexually abused. We have recorded violations of the rights of children who are in homes for abandoned minors”.
