Ukraine, Zelensky: “Long and significant conversation with Xi”

The Chinese leader: “Dialogue and negotiation is the only way”

“I had a long and meaningful telephone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping.” This was written on Twitter by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. “I believe – he added – that this phone call, as well as the appointment of the Ukrainian ambassador to China, will give a strong impetus to the development of our bilateral relations”.

In the telephone conversation Xi Jinping, as reported by the official Chinese agency Xinhua, said that “dialogue” and “negotiations” are the “only way out” possible for the Ukrainian crisis. China is “always on the side of peace” and on the “Ukrainian crisis” its position is to “promote peace” through talks, the Chinese leader reiterated.

Xi Jinping sends the government’s Special Representative for Eurasia to Ukraine and other countries for in-depth communications with all parties on a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said. Xi had announced Beijing’s mediation initiative in his telephone conversation with Zelensky, Xinhua news agency said.

RECONSTRUCTION CONFERENCE – Today, speaking by video link at the bilateral conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine in Rome, Zelensky addressed Italy. “We invite your (Italian, ed.) companies to build a safe future for all”, declared the Ukrainian president. “We don’t just want to receive aid, but to develop new skills”, added Zelensky, saying he was “certain” that Italian companies “can contribute to a Ukrainian success story”.

“There is a lot to do” in Ukraine, since the Second World War no country “has ever seen such destruction” and “now this war brings us opportunities for a future of development”, said the Ukrainian president.
