The Russian army attacked the positions of the troops in Kiev and civilian infrastructure near Lysychansk (pictured), Metiolkino, Ustynivka and Voronove, in the Lugansk region, where air strikes were also launched on the Syrotyne and Borivske areas. In Severodonetsk military units of Moscow tried to carry out assault operations outside the city, increasingly firmly in Moscow’s hands, but according to the Kiev General Staff they were rejected

Heavy fighting, therefore, is affecting the Lugansk, region of eastern Ukraine. The governor Sergiy Gaiday he said the current situation is “difficult, both in the city of Lysychansk and in the region as a whole”, as the Russians “are bombing our troops 24 hours a day.” There is an expression: prepare for the worst and the best will come by itself. We have to prepare ourselves, “he added

Gaiday called for supplies of “long-range weapons to arrive as soon as possible”. “The fact that the West is helping us is good, but it’s too late,” she explained. From Lysychansk, Ukrainian artillery is firing at Severodonetsk, where smoke rises from the Azot factory and Russian troops fire bullets and rockets. In the past few hours, the Russian agency Tass reported the news of a powerful explosion in Severodonetsk and showed a video in which a pink mushroom-shaped cloud is seen rising into the sky.

Inside the urban perimeter the armed stand still continues in the Azot chemical factory, where over 500 civilians, including about forty children, remain trapped in the bunkers. The Russians continue to accuse the Ukrainian troops barricaded inside of using them as “human shields”. After the failure of the humanitarian corridor proposed by Moscow, which wanted to lead them to the territories under its control in Lugansk, they remain blocked with supplies of water and food now reduced to a flicker

Russian forces conquered the Metelkino village, southeastern suburb of Severodonetsk. Demining of the area is underway, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said, quoted by Interfax. “Akhmat’s special forces units, together with the second corps of the People’s Militia of the Lugansk People’s Republic, liberated the Metelkino settlement near the city of Severodonetsk,” he explained. And again: “The Ukrainian side has lost between 600 and 700 fighters, dead and wounded, in the battle for this center in the last week”

Fights also in the region of Kharkiv, in northeastern Ukraine. A Russian missile attack destroyed a tram depot (pictured). Not only. Ukrainska Pravda reports that “Russian occupiers fired at a gas treatment plant in the Izyum district”, a city of Kharkiv oblast. It adds that “a large-scale fire has broken out”. The Russian army has also launched new attacks against the eastern Dnipropetrovsk regionnotably bombed the Kryvyi Rih district, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was born. There would be civilian casualties and destroyed buildings. “The air raid sirens rang several times in the region. The Russians hit the Kryvyi Rih district again,” said the head of the regional military administration Valentyn Reznichenko.

Russian forces are also stepping up shelling along the entire front line in Ukraine’s eastern region of Donetsk: 28 settlements have been bombed in the last 24 hours, according to reports from the military and civil administrations, cited by Ukrinform. In the region there are reports of damage to about fifty structures including skyscrapers, private homes, industrial plants, a factory, three cultural institutes and two schools. Cruise missiles were also fired at Odessa from Crimea and, according to the Southern Operational Command of the Ukrainian army, were shot down by anti-aircraft. In the past few hours, the Ukrainian president Zelensky returned to the front: after last weekend visits to the troops in Zaporizhzhia and Donbass, he appeared by surprise in Odessa (in the photo) and in Mykolaivthe two strategic centers on the Black Sea still under bombardment, visiting other outposts that symbolize the Ukrainian resistance

TO Mykolaiv (pictured) the Kiev leader inspected the rubble of the buildings affected by the raids together with Governor Vitaly Kim, whose palace had been gutted in late March in one of the bloodiest attacks by Moscow forces. TO Odessa instead he visited the National Guard base and the trauma department of a hospital where soldiers wounded in battle are hospitalized. There was then a discussion with the local authorities on how to organize the possible grain corridor

The new Zelensky mission took place not far from the region of Kherson, where, according to Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, the next counter-offensive could be oriented, perhaps the most crucial because it concerns “the key city for the strategic stability of Ukraine”. Here, too, Russian rockets have rained in the last few hours
