Ukrainian war, US-Russia contacts: “Avoid escalation”

Contacts between Biden advisors and Russian counterparts according to the ‘Wall Street Journal’

Chief National Security Advisor to the President of the United States, Joe Biden has been engaged in confidential conversations in recent months with the Russian President’s key collaborators, Vladimir Putin in an effort to avoid a widening of the conflict in Ukraine and to warn Moscow about the possible use of nuclear weapons or of mass destruction. To reveal it is the ‘Wall Street Journal’ noting that US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in particular has been in contact with Yuri Ushakov, a foreign policy adviser to Putin.

Sullivan also reportedly spoke to his direct counterpart in the Russian government, Nikolai Patrushev, officials told the US newspaper. The goal would be to protect themselves from the risk of an escalation and to keep the communication channels open. It would not be about discussing a solution to the war in Ukraine, officials explained.
