Ukrainian war, videos of beheaded Kiev soldiers. Zelensky: “Beasts, the world reacts”

Two chilling videos of beheaded Ukrainian soldiers have been released on social media. The first, reports CNN, appears more recent and was allegedly filmed near Bakhmut. The other should be from last summer, judging by the surrounding plants. Broadcast on a pro-Russian channel on April 8, the first video was reportedly shot by Wagner mercenaries in Bakhmut, but CNN is unable to confirm the location.

The bodies next to a destroyed military vehicle

The decapitated bodies of two Ukrainian soldiers, with their hands cut off, are seen lying next to a destroyed military vehicle. A voiceover, apparently distorted so as not to allow identification, tells with vulgar expressions that the vehicle jumped on a mine, killing the two soldiers. “Someone then came and cut off their heads,” the voice adds, with a laugh.

Uncertainty about the origin of the second video

The second video circulates on Twitter and is very blurry. It appears to have been shot last summer and shows a Russian fighter cutting off the head of a Ukrainian soldier with a knife. A voice at the beginning of the video suggests the decapitated soldier was still alive when he was attacked. Shortly after the video was released, Ukrainian presidential adviser Andriy Yermak tweeted a short sentence: “They will be accountable for everything.”

Zelensky: “We will not forget anything”

”There is something that no one in the world can ignore: how easily these beasts kill. We will not forget anything. Nor will we forgive the assassins,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video message posted on Twitter. ”This video is the execution of a Ukrainian prisoner. This is a video that demonstrates Russia as it is. What kind of people are they”. ”This is not an accident, it is not an isolated episode. It was like that before,” Zelensky added. “It was like that in Bucha. Thousands of times. Everyone has to react. Every leader”. Zelensky said to the Russians: “Do not expect it to be forgotten. Time will pass, but we will forget nothing. Nor will we forgive the murderers. There will be legal responsibility for everything. The defeat of terror is necessary”.

Kuleba: “Russia is worse than the Islamic State”

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has compared Russia to the Islamic State after videos of the beheading of captive Ukrainian soldiers. “A horrific video of Russian troops beheading a Ukrainian prisoner of war is circulating online. It is absurd that Russia, which is worse than the Islamic State, presides over the UN Security Council”, he denounced, referring to the rotating presidency assumed from Moscow this month. “Russian terrorists must be expelled from Ukraine and the United Nations and held accountable for their crimes,” added Kuleba.

The UN: “Horror for video decapitation”

The UN human rights mission in Ukraine said it was “horrified” by the video which appears to show a Russian soldier beheading a Ukrainian prisoner with a knife. He also referred to a second video showing “mutilated bodies, apparently of Ukrainian POWs” and called for “these incidents to be properly investigated and those responsible held to account”.
