Valeria Marini: “The relationship with Gimmi Cangiano? I’m still looking for true love”

The actress told Adnkronos: “I have many projects including talent outside Italy. My life would be even more stellar if there was true true love”

My life would be even more stellar if there was true love. I have no shortage of job offers, I’m also considering those outside Italy, including an important talent. My work and my success have always been a certainty, they have always given me stellar energy and the strength to face the many deceptions in my love life. But I still believe in love”. As Valeria Marini in an exclusive interview with Adnkronos he talks about his next work projects and his dream, that of ”building a family and getting married”.

The relationship with Gimmi Cangiano

We saw you at the opening of the 80th edition of the Venice Film Festival with the Honorable Gimmi Cangiano of Fdi who claimed to be your partner, but is it true love? ”I have a special relationship with him that I care about and that I want to protect, if they’re roses they’ll bloom!”, reveals the leading lady of ‘Il Bagaglino’ who prefers not to go too far but suggests that It is not yet clear between the two whether a real romantic relationship exists or not.

So is it a different relationship from the one you had with Vittorio Cecchi Gori? ”You can’t make comparisons, we’re talking about completely different situations and moments. I met Vittorio in a very difficult moment and I was at his side to help him. Anyone who would have fled was abandoned and supported only by a few valid illustrious friends from the world of cinema, culture and entertainment including Roberto Benigni, Giuseppe Tornatore and Ferzan Ozpetek. For me it was a truly difficult moment in life which put me to the test but which I overcame despite being very young and inexperienced”.

“I owe everything to Pingitore, I learned everything from him”

Talking about his long career Marini remembers her beginnings as a model: “The first campaign I did was for Ikea, chosen from 500 models who came from all over Europe but my great desire was to act and so I started an important theater tour, with Mario Scaccia , where I played the role of the comely waitress with her head in the clouds”. Then the ”almost fatal” accident – she says – I had to choose whether to have surgery on my arm or continue the tour and I chose the second option and made the right choice”.

From there I made my debut on TV: ”They sent me to do an audition where they were looking for a model who could also act and I started doing these candid cameras which were such a great success to the point that Fabio Lionello, Oreste’s son, took me to do the audition for ‘Ninni’ (Pier Francesco Pingitore) and from there my luck began with the ‘Bagaglino’ company. Valeria admits that she owes everything to Pingitore: “At the beginning when he gave me the chance to be the ‘prima donna’ in the theater in a daily show and then get to the television version, I was a little hesitant but in the end I accepted and it was my fortune”.

“Being on stage – he continues – with great artists like Oreste Lionello, Leo Gullotta, Pippo Franco, Maurizio Martufello, Mario Zamma was highly educational, I learned a lot. The world of ‘Il Bagaglino’ is still an established success today – he continues Marini – a few years ago I returned to the Salone Margherita with the show ‘La Presidente’ and even there Pingitore was far-sighted, he placed the female figure as the future President of the Republic and after two years our Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was elected of whom we are all very proud and that he is doing an excellent job”.

Support for Giorgia Meloni

Marini has never hidden his support for Prime Minister Meloni: “I met her personally – he says – she is a special person, she has fifth gear. I had already, before she was elected, expressed my great esteem towards her. She is a strong woman, with character, simple and direct and It seems to me that these characteristics of hers are confirmed by everything the Meloni Government is doing. It’s nice to see a woman in command.”

The Sanremo adventure

Returning to her ‘stellar’ career, as she likes to define it, Valeria remembers when she went on stage at the Ariston. It was 1997 and Mike Bongiorno and Piero Chiambretti were hosting the singing event: “It was a dream come true, it was beautiful, fun and exciting, I did it at the same time as Patroni Griffi’s tour ‘Born Yesterday’ because I have always alternated cinema, theater and television and for me – he admits – they were two very tiring commitments but it was truly exciting”.

“With Alberto Sordi it was love at first sight”

Then cinema arrived in the showgirl’s life with ‘Bambola’ by Bigas Luna and ‘Incontri prohibiti’ with the great Alberto Sordi: “When he called me I didn’t believe it either – reveals Marini – every morning Sordi read the newspaper and took inspiration for his films by all the stories that struck him”. On the set? “It was love at first sight – underlines Valeria – he had the energy of a young man despite his 82 years, they were two wonderful years, I was the most awarded woman of Italy because when they rewarded him they rewarded me too”, he smiles. There were also many reality shows in which Valeria participated, including ‘Big Brother VIP’ and the Spanish ‘Island of the Famous’: “Now I prefer talent shows to reality shows – she continues – I have had several job offers, one even outside “Italy but I’m still evaluating them. My stellar life is also this – concludes Marini – I love my job very much, I particularly love dancing and acting, luckily I have no regrets, I would do it all again”.
