Vela, Chieffi and Colaninno win the Emilio Benetti Historic Event Iscyra trophy

Enrico Chieffi and Nando Colaninno won the 59th edition of the Emilio Benetti Historic Event Iscyra Trophy held from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 June, with 5 points (three first places, one second and one discard). In second place Giampiero Poggi and Davide Mugnaini (9 points), with Vincenzo Locatelli and Alessandro Sodano on equal points who occupied the third step of the podium. As every year, leading names in national and international sailing of great technical level took part in the historic event, including Flavio Favini and the Argentine designer Juan Kouyoumndjian. For Enrico Chieffi, CEO of Slam, who continues to race successfully in the STAR class, today’s result has a particular significance because it represents the sixth victory, an absolute record, in the history of the Emilio Benetti Historic Event Iscyra Trophy.

Twenty crews entered the event, which took place in very variable weather conditions: the first day with 10-12 knots from the south-west gradually decreasing in the third race, while on Saturday afternoon, after a strong storm in the morning, there were two races held in light winds. The last scheduled regatta, today’s, was characterized by sunshine and an average wind from the Mistral. The event was organized by the Viareggina Sailing Company, the Versilia Nautical Club and the Cortina d’Ampezzo Yacht Club, in collaboration with the Versiliesi Sailing Clubs Committee, the Viareggio section LNI, the CV Torre del Lago Puccini. The Emilio Benetti Historic Event Iscyra Trophy represents the first stage of approaching the Star World Championship scheduled from 16 to 24 September at Marina di Scarlino.
