‘Another Ferragosto’ will be shot entirely on the island of Ventotene, the historic location of ‘August Holidays’. “Until now – says Paolo Virzì – I had only thought about it as a joke, many times, almost every time I finished a film, ‘Now let’s go back to Ventotene and continue the comedy of those two families’. I wrote new scripts which I then threw away, or set aside. Many things held me back and I had come to the conclusion that I would only return to Ventotene on a trip”.
“Instead – continues the director – this time it’s really happening, who knows why right now, in 2023. I think I’ve guessed the reason, but I want to explore it better during the days and nights of shooting that await us. I confess to being excited, meeting new the characters of that old film amuses me and a little scares me. To regret those who are no longer there – but who will somehow be there – moves me. Reuniting the glorious band of interpreters, mixing it with the formidable new entrances, electrifies me I thank my friends but above all the producers who persuaded me, with heartbreaking stubbornness, to come back here.”
The film will be released in cinemas soon distributed by 01 Distribution.
THE PLOT – On an August evening in 1996, in the house in Ventotene where the journalist Sandro Molino spent his holidays, his partner Cecilia revealed to him that she was pregnant. Today Altiero Molino is a twenty-six-year-old digital entrepreneur and returns to Ventotene with her model husband to gather old friends around his sick father, to give him one last vacation in that place so dear to him. She didn’t expect to find the island buzzing with Sabry Mazzalupi’s wedding to her boyfriend Cesare: the awkward little girl, daughter of the Roman shopkeeper Ruggero, has become a web celebrity and her wedding is a social event that attracts the media and even mysterious emissaries of the new political power.
Two tribes of vacationers, two apparently irreconcilable Italys, destined to meet again on August 15, for a definitive challenge this time.
