Risk of landslides and river floods in the Apennines. Orange alert in the Centre-North
Widespread bad weather and red and orange weather warnings for several regions on Monday 30 October. The week, with the long weekend towards November 1st, opens under the banner of adverse conditions across a large part of Italy. The Civil Protection bulletin specifically reports a red weather alert for several areas of Emilia Romagna, associated with ‘high criticality due to hydrogeological risk’.
The alert concerns in detail the central Emilian mountains, the Piacenza-Parma mountains, the high Piacenza-Parma hills and the Bolognese mountains. The risk for landslides and floods in the minor courses throughout the Emilian Apennines is highlighted from the region, specifically in the mountain areas of the provinces of Piacenza, Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena and Bologna, communicates the Emilia Romagna Region.
According to the bulletin issued by the Agency for Territorial Security and Civil Protection on the basis of forecast data from Arpae (Regional Agency for Prevention, Environment and Energy), “high quantities of rain are expected in all the mountainous areas of Emilia and locally also in the western plains : precipitation could generate increases in hydrometric levels in watercourses, with probable exceeding of the moderate criticality threshold. Widespread landslides and extensive runoff along the slopes could therefore be generated.”
The Emilia Romagna Region also underlines that a general intensification of the winds is expected, with moderate storm gusts of up to 75 kilometers per hour on the Romagna plain and on the western Apennines, while on the central-eastern side of the mountains they could reach 90 kilometers per hour. Due to the strong winds, rough seas are expected off the coast of Ferrara.
The other regions, Civil Protection bulletin
The orange weather alert – according to the Civil Protection bulletin – extends due to hydraulic risk to Friuli Venezia Giulia, Tuscany (in particular Lunigiana) and Veneto. For thunderstorms, in addition to Emilia Romagna and Tuscany, the orange alert extends to Liguria. For hydrogeological risk, however, the same level concerns practically the entire North: again Emilia Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Liguria, Lombardy, Veneto and Tuscany.
The list of regions associated with the yellow alert for the weather conditions in different areas is understandably longer. The list includes Emilia Romagna, Liguria, Lombardy, Piedmont, Tuscany, Umbria, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Trentino Alto Adige and Veneto.
