The Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle did not fly to London to attend the coronation of King Charles III (THE SPECIAL). Although she was invited, she chose to stay in the Los Angeles house that she shares with her husband, the Duke of Sussex Harry, who will instead attend the ceremony for her father. Meghan’s absence has been confirmed by Buckingham Palace for some time: “She will stay in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet”, read a statement released in April. May 6 is in fact also the day when the little Archie celebrates his fourth birthday: this would be the main reason for Meghan’s absence, which however, according to many, is not convincing. Before the official announcement of Buckingham Palace, there had been speculation that Meghan would not even be invited, due to of the constant squabbles with the Crown that for years have been filling the front pages of tabloids around the world. However, various indiscretions are circulating about the real reasons for the absence of the Duchess (THE CEREMONY PROGRAM – THE MENU).

The speculations: Kate’s role and Meghan’s (not accepted) requests

Royal biographer Tom Bower thinks Meghan’s absence has something to do with Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales and consort of Prince William. TO GB News Tonight, a few weeks ago, Bower had said that Kate would make it clear that Meghan’s presence would not be welcome “under any circumstances”. Had the Duchess arrived in London for her coronation, she would have had to “sit in the back” during the ceremony. A source of MailOnline thus revealed that everyone is “relieved” by Meghan’s absence, which “would have made Kate particularly uncomfortable”. But this, like many others, is only an unconfirmed indiscretion. Meghan is due to the fact that some conditions set by her together with her husband have not been met by the Crown. Okay! Magazinethat the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had asked, for example, that their children too be invited (which is not a given, given their small age), to spend the weekend in the residence of Frogmore Cottage (from which they are evicted), to receive a adequate protection from Scotland Yard and to be able to be present on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, together with all the others, when the King looks out to greet the crowd after the coronation rite.

The photo with Harry and Meghan among the official souvenirs of the coronation

Relations between Meghan and the rest of the family therefore continue to not be relaxed: no one expects a reconciliation to come, especially after Harry’s revelations in his autobiography Shoot they exacerbated an already deteriorating relationship. However, King Charles wanted to include a family portrait with the Dukes of Sussex among the official souvenirs cataloged by Buckingham Palace for the coronation. This is an archive photo taken by the court photographer Chris Jackson in the garden of Clarence House, on the occasion of the 70th birthday party of the then Prince Charles in 2018. Those were more serene times: Harry and Meghan had not yet given up on the royal life.
