Wimbledon 2023, Berrettini in the third round of the men’s draw

The blue in the second round beats the Australian De Minaur in 3 sets

Matteo Berrettini beats the Australian Alex De Minaur in the second round of Wimbledon 2023 and with an excellent performance he flies to the third round in the men’s singles draw. The blue defeats the number 15 seed 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in 2h10′ and gets ready to face the German Alex Zverev, seed number 19, who beats the Japanese Yosuke Watanuki in 4 sets.

Berrettini starts shooting, immediately scores the break and escapes on 3-0 mortgaging the first fraction. De Minaur remains hooked to the set with difficulty, holding serve with difficulty in the seventh game. The blue, on the other hand, doesn’t concede anything at the serve: he always scores when he places the first and closes the practice for 6-3 in 33 ‘.

De Minaur raises the pressure at the start of the second set, getting 2 break points in the second game: Berrettini doesn’t tremble, cancels the Australian’s chances and at the first opportunity places the break to extend 2-1. 5-3 ahead, the Roman could close the partial by breaking his rival’s service again: the first set point, however, goes away. We have to wait for the tenth game, and the third overall set point, for the 6-4 which directs the match towards the blue.

Berrettini does not drop and, even in the third set, capitalizes on the opponent’s empty pass. De Minaur, at 2-2, hurts himself with 2 gratuitous errors: first a forehand, then a backhand and the break arrives which brings the blue forward (3-2). Berrettini puts the autopilot to work, doesn’t concede anything to De Minaur and closes the accounts: 6-4, game over after 2h10′.
