With the Lenovo project, PC boxes promote STEM activities

#Waste2Wonder is underway, an initiative open to all schools in the EMEA region which – through a QR code – transforms the unpacking of a device into a journey to discover STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics)

Transform device packaging into a teaching resource and create interest in STEM subjects, promoting a creative spirit in students. This is the objective of the #Waste2Wonder project, launched by Lenovo, an initiative open to all schools in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, Africa), including Italian ones. It is an idea that starts from direct experience, which transforms the unpacking of a Lenovo device into a journey to discover STEM subjects, since together with the hardware the student also has the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of how electronic devices products. By scanning the QR code, a journey of knowledge is started: students are invited to cut along the internal packaging and follow an educational path that teaches them how electrical circuits and forces work, both an integral part of the STEM curriculum.

The objective of the project – explains the group – is to combine the objectives of sustainability and development of students’ skills in STEM subjects with an interactive experience in a sustainable way. The information will be available on all Chromebook and Winbook devices for school starting in October. Already 400 teachers have registered for the project presentation webinar, of which more than 60 are in Italy.

Schools will also be able to participate in a competition created in collaboration with STEM Alliance by sending a creative project created using PC packaging materials by November 30th. The program is open to all schools in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, Africa), including Italy, and the educational paths are accessible to all age groups. On the dedicated website, educational activities are available in various languages, including Italian, to simplify the step-by-step path to discovering STEM activities and projects. The awards will take place at one of the most famous international events dedicated to the world of schools, Bett 2024 which is held from 24 to 26 January 2024 in London.
