The events of the 37th World Youth Day in Lisbon continue, which began last August 1st (and ends on August 6th). The initiatives are scattered almost everywhere in the Portuguese capital: some of its most important places – from Edoardo VII Park to the green areas near the Tagus River – have organized themselves to host the appointments of the event. Here is the map with the main places.
Edward VII Park
The opening Mass, the welcoming ceremony of Pope Francis, the Via Crucis. Edoardo VII Park was chosen for these events, which from the north of the historic center – starting from Marques de Pombal square and going straight up along Avenida da Libertade – towers over the city. For the occasion it was called “Hill of the meeting”.
Tagus Park
For the Day, however, the Tagus Park, near the iconic Vasco da Gama bridge, was transformed into “The Field of Grace”. Here, in addition to the evening Mass between 5 and 6 August, also the final Mass with the Pontiff.
Italy house
Near the Encounter Hill is the meeting point for all Italians who have chosen to fly to Lisbon and celebrate World Youth Day. In fact, Casa Italia is located in rua Arthilaria 1, set up in the spaces of the school of the Dorothean Sisters. Here are the secretariat of the National Service for Youth Ministry, a representative of the Italian Embassy in Lisbon, a doctor in case of need, a chapel to pray.
City of Joy
Moving back towards Vasco da Gama park is the City of Joy, near the Jeronimos Monastery in Belém. It houses 150 confessionals, made by prisoners, and the stands of the vocations fair.
Passeio Marítimo de Algés
And again, always in Belém and always in front of the banks of the Tagus, on the Passeio Marítimo de Algés, there is the meeting point for all Italian pilgrims.
