Zaporizhzhia, Aiea: “No nuclear emergency, but risk”

The report of the organization based in Vienna: “Damage in different parts of the power plant”

Bombing in progress in the Zaporizhzhia area“have not yet triggered a nuclear emergency”but they represent “a constant threat” with the risk of causing significant “radioactive consequences”. The International Atomic Energy Agency (Aiea) writes this in its report released on the recent mission of its inspectors to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine.

“Damage” was observed at various points of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant by the IAEA team of inspectors who went on a mission recently. Damaged, among other things, a turbine lubrication oil tank, the roofs of various buildings, the special building housing the radioactive solid waste storage facility, the training building and the container in which the radiation monitoring system is located. The mission, the report continues, ascertained that some repair work has been carried out and others are in progress, stressing that more work is needed to repair all damage.
